Decor For The Geek

Here is a list of home accessories that will satisfy your inner geek. Geek Pillows, geek doormats, geek curtains, we got them all!

We will start off with cushions then…

If you are using a Mac, you will recognise the icon set immediately. The icon collection from Throwboy helps you get a little closer to your computer! Here’s the maker’s version:

We know your computer is more than a tool. It’s a constant companion, a friend. A gateway to the great heights of “risqué.” The hub to your very life and existence. But we think it should be more. It should be snuggled close to you as you sleep and clutched tightly in your clammy hands during that especially gruesome scene in The Ring. And, since polycarbonate and aluminum hardly lend themselves to cuddly-comfort, we’ve got the solution.

Judging by the demand they have more on their way:

Here is another cushion that prints out the directory listing in DOS.

*If you look carefully, you will find a Trojan.exe listed too. ;)

Are we done with pillows yet? No chance! This pillow by Offline shirts tries to emphasize your ‘non-geekiness’.

But we are not completely sure it is sending out the right signals!

You tuck your iPod (or other audio player) inside the pillow and listen to the music through the internal speaker. As an extra feature, the buttons on the pillow actually work, providing volume control and the means to switch between your player and the built-in FM radio. The MP3 Pillow is $19.95 and comes in blue, pink and white.

Feeling stressed out after a rough day? Try the Hearbeat pillow from Think Geek that vibrates with a special rhythmic heart beat to calm your nerves. Now we have seen them all!

From cushions to ASCII art curtains…

Designer Carlo Jorges has found a new way to decorate wall: Using images from the online photo sharing community – Flickr.

The roller connected to a computer by cable can paint surfaces with the images downloaded from Flickr. All you need to do is press Go! [Via]

We have heard ‘There is no place like home’. But ‘No place like your IP address’. Come, on guys! Another product from Think Geek!

You know you are a geek when your dolls are geek. Check out Art Lebedev’s Matryoshka Dolls and you will never confuse your bits and bytes again.

Want to show your geeky side to your guests? Serve them coffee on this set by MOD Design and they will get the hint.

Clocks with a difference

Clocks shown below do not just tell you the time; they act as showcase pieces. Come on, get yourself one of these. (They are excellent conversation starters ;) )

Some capture us just because they are so different:

like for example this clock by Jansen Lye which tells us time not by needles but by its rim.

Tik Tak clock designed by Niels van Eijik and Miriam van der Lubbe tells us the time by arranging the digits of varying sizes on one or more metal arms on the dial, though how, would require more careful examination.

another concept by Fluke which separates out the seconds minutes and hours.

Some clocks understand that we are counting the hours and waiting for just the right time…

(Perfect for Office!)

Some give us subtle messages about the the environment…

then again, some are not that subtle…

Some tells us the time in words:

Designed by Christiaan Postma these random match stick like fragments arrange themselves to form words that tell time!

and some are just pretty good to look at:

Space saving furniture

Space is a constraint that is beginning to hit us these days. With an ever rising population, the demand for space is only bound to increase with time. In this post we feature some intelligent space saving furniture that would be ideal for small space living.

What would you say if we told you all the furniture you see in the image below…

came from this small box?

Here is another similar concept by kenchikukagu but one that gives more emphasis to the kitchen.

We are pretty much sure that Bonbon Trading has been inspired by the Transformers movie in making this outstanding piece of furniture. Sofa for the living room doubles up as a bunkbed! How cool is this?

Too lazy after that late night movie you watched on the TV? How about napping on the Sofa after you convert it to a bed? More sofa bed transformations…

And space saving furniture always needn’t be folded up to save space. Mebel furniture series by designer Daniel Milchtein Peltsverger is a case in point. These ergonomically designed stackable chairs made of molded plastic are ideal for hotel and office lobbies.

We have looked at space saving for the living, kitchen and the bedroom but aren’t we missing one place? Yep, you guessed it – The Bathroom.

by BHG

The sink in a drawer is a cool idea IF(and that is a BIG if) you have space to play with in the room adjacent to the bathroom.

Here is another more radical way to conserve space in the bathroom, infact it is more like a vertical micro bathroom.

Paul Hernon of Design Ltd calls it the Vertebrae. The Vertebrae packs a toilet, sink, two shower modules (one for children), storage space for shower, bath, shaving, and cosmetic products right along the column. Each component is a swingable module that can be used when needed.

Home Entertainment Spaces

Home entertainment centers are getting cheaper and cheaper and the temptation to enjoy your favourite flicks in the comfort of your home is making people design their own entertainment spaces. In this article we give you a few tips to keep in mind when you design your theatre and also feature some home entertainment spaces from where you can draw some inspiration.

This awesome home theater has one of the largest screens ever installed in a home (about 18-feet wide), and also features one of the best sound systems on the planet – consisting of 16 subwoofers, 8 tower speakers, 10 tweeters, and 3 center channel speakers, all of which are powered by a group of 35 amps.

Those were some moderately expensive setups so far. We thought we would leave you with a slightly more pricey setup by Jeremy Kipnis which if you decide to setup in your own home would make you lighter by $6 million.
